Highway 24 in Woodland Park reopened after an overturned tanker truck

Jul 15, 2023

WOODLAND PARK — The Teller County Sheriff's Office closed Highway 24 in Woodland Park due to an overturned tanker truck Tuesday morning. Barricades were in place along Highway 24 at Highway 67 and to West Street in Woodland Park.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Highway 24 has reopened.

Crews were working to offload any fuel in the truck before uprighting the vehicle and opening the area.

Emergency Management crews say that approximately 2000 gallons of diesel fuel carried by the tractor tanker were spilled into a nearby storm drain.

"Right now, no product that we can estimate has entered Fountain Creek downstream from that location. Obviously, that drainage is a part of the fountain creek drainage, and it's usually dry this time of year, which has been a benefit to us, where we were able to build a pool to catch and contain all of the diesel product," said Jay Teague, the Emergency Management Director for Teller County.

No one has been injured. ____
